How We Began: Season 1, Episode 1

The dream begins... (although neither one of my parents knew it was a dream at the time!)

It started in the summer of 1981. A young contractor building an addition for a neighbor just six doors down. My dad (Mike) was 4 or 5 years out of the Marine Corps and my mom (Chris) was entering her junior year in college. Six years age difference during your school years is like a couple generations, or so my dad says. As fate would have it, during construction my mom showed up after grocery shopping. She emptied the groceries, folded up the paper bag and said to my dad, “put this away”. Right then he knew that was his wife. Two weeks later, he asked her to marry him.
